Beyond flat. Designing for depth.

Why spatial interfaces need clear hierarchy, restraint and a reason to move.

TETRIUM Editorial · October 2026

Depth should explain, not distract.

Three-dimensional interfaces become useful when position, scale and movement reveal relationships. A product can come forward when selected, a diagram can unfold as its meaning becomes clear, and the surrounding interface can remain calm.

Motion is part of the interface.

A transition should connect the state you left to the one you entered. At Tetrium, the core sculpture responds to pointer movement while the page remains readable. Animation can be paused, and a reduced-motion preference is respected.

Build for the device in front of you.

A smaller screen needs a different composition, not a smaller copy of the desktop. Render resolution is capped, offscreen scenes stop rendering, and static content remains available when WebGL cannot run.
